DESIGNING FIELD RESEARCH: METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS AND ISSUES

This workshop aims to introduce the participants to the practices of ethnographic research. Through theoretical discussions and practical exercises, various stages of ethnographic research, from the design of field research to actual field practices, methods of data analysis, as well as the final stage of the write-up of the study, will be introduced and analyzed. Specific issues of ethnographic research will be discussed, such as the selection of “the ethnographic field”, the formulation of research questions, the choice and application of research techniques (participant observation, interviews, group activities), the relationship between the researcher and the research subjects, ethical issues related to the research, methods of keeping field notes and recording data in general, data organization and data processing, the ethnographic text.
